Butterfly valves are used to control or regulate the flow of specific media within a pipeline. This type of industrial valve adjusts the fluid stream using a rotatable disc. Smaller nominal diameters are operated manually via a lever, while larger sizes are typically equipped with a gearbox and handwheel. Key Features of Butterfly Valves

Butterfly valves feature a compact design that saves both space and weight. They allow for throttling of the medium, are easy to install, highly versatile, and available with various sealing materials for applications up to 200 °C (392 °F), or with metal-seated designs for temperatures up to 600 °C (1,112 °F).

Eccentric Design

Butterfly valves are available in centric, soft-sealing designs for lower temperature applications, as well as in double-eccentric, metal-seated versions for high temperatures and pressures exceeding 16 bar (232 psi).

Design Types at a Glance

Centric wafer and lug-type butterfly valves, in accordance with DIN or ANSI standards, are suitable for regulating and isolating gaseous or liquid media. They are easy to install and cause lower pressure losses compared to conventional valves.

Sealing Element of the Butterfly Valve

The valve’s sealing element is available in various materials such as NBR, EPDM, and VITON, each resistant to oils, greases, water, chemicals, or high temperatures depending on the application.

Double-Eccentric Butterfly Valve with Soft Seal

This butterfly valve with integrated flanges is designed for steel or stainless steel pipelines. The valve body is primed and painted, providing corrosion resistance and ensuring a long service life. Face-to-face dimensions conform to EN 558-1, and the sealing surface meets EN 1092-1 in the standard version. Flanged connections according to ANSI standards are also available, allowing the valve to be connected to nearly any piping system.

The soft-sealing version features a double-eccentric disc. By using soft sealing materials, the valve is suitable for applications up to a maximum temperature of 200°C (392°F).

Double-Eccentric Butterfly Valve with Metal Seat

Metal-seated butterfly valves in a double-eccentric design feature a flow-optimized disc mounting. The valve body, made of steel or stainless steel, is suitable for a wide range of applications. This design is commonly used in power plants, chemical processing, and industrial sectors. Seat hardfacing options are also available, which further extend the service life. Unlike soft-sealed butterfly valves, metal-seated industrial valves are suitable for high operating temperatures.

Triple-Eccentric Butterfly Valve with Metal Seat

The triple-eccentric, metal-seated butterfly valve can be manufactured in wafer and flanged designs. The triple-eccentric disc design enables high closing force with low operating effort. The body and disc materials are available in carbon steel or stainless steel. Thanks to the stellite-coated seat, a long service life is ensured. Available with flanged connections as well as butt-weld ends.
